Is there a time limit to apply for death compensation and what is the amount of the compensation?
A claim for compensation in respect of the death of a person shall be made within 24 months after the date of such death. If the person is assessed with death results from pneumoconiosis or mesothelioma (or both), the amount of death compensation is determined by the average yearly earnings, age factors and deduction of compensation paid. But the minimum death compensation will be HK$238,530 with a maximum amount of funeral expenses at HK$94,690.
The above changes in the levels of compensation are applicable to the deaths occurred on or after 13 April 2023.
